Aeration is used extensively with the biological (biochemical?) oxidation of both domestic and industrial natural and organic wastes. In wastewater treatment, the function of aeration is to introduce air in the water by way of the simplest and least high priced methods that should enhance oxygen transfer (dissolved oxygen) while in the wastewater.
